Preface:

Great things happen when you abandon your comfort zone.

Some 8200 kilometers and 76 days of cycling from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean alone was definitely out of my comfort zone. Although I rode solo, I was never alone as Canadians across the country were with me.

People know me as a professional photographer and will be surprised that I am publishing this collection of short stories. Originally, I envisioned a colourful table-top book of photographs. However, an incredible series of events overwhelmingly tipped the scales toward the written word. The outpouring of kindness and generosity by the people of Canada needed to be told.

This book represents the first stage of my incredible journey from Vancouver to Halifax, where I forged friendships and experienced many hardships, setbacks, and detours. It continues with the second stage. I committed to stretch out of my comfort zone again to write about my experiences.

A main purpose of the journey was to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s. I’m hoping this book will raise money to help with research and supporting the Alzheimer’s associations in each province.

I’m dedicating this book to everybody affected by Alzheimer’s, but especially to Marjorie Symons. Marjorie’s wonderful wink, beautiful smile and sense of fun poured from her spirit. Her memories slowly disappeared but they live on in all those whose lives she touched.
