Canada Helps – 24 Hour ride for Alzheimer’s (link to fundraising site
Around the clock for Alzheimer’s. It’s time for a new day..
On Wednesday, May 20, 2020 Don Martel will cycle sunset to sunset on his well-traveled bike, Miracle. Together they will navigate the light and darkness of a complete day He will begin his journey age 61 at the Canadian flag at the base of Ouellette Avenue in Windsor, Ontario Canada. Don will cycle for 24 hours non-stop through our county and finish at age 62, so that your funds can help the Alzheimer’s Society navigate these new times in world history.
For several years now, Don Martel, Windsor resident and professional photographer, has made fundraising for those suffering with dementia his personal mission by cycling across Canada.
In 2015, Don cycled East to West across Canada and then in 2018, he cycled North to South. His life changing adventures have raised over $20,000.00 for Alzheimer’s disease. Don’s journey and desire to raise funds for the Alzheimer Society of Windsor & Essex County is not over! Don had been contemplating cycling around the world, however, that’s impossible in these times. Around the clock, is possible.
Long before “social distancing” was a part of our daily vocabulary, those facing dementia knew exactly what it meant. So many people living with dementia have felt isolated from friends, families and communities. The Alzheimer Society of Windsor & Essex County has been a lifeline for people living with dementia to get support, connect and learn – something that is vital in their quest to live the best life possible.
Today, the need for dementia support is greater than ever before. The demand for our support services is at an all-time high and we anticipate the demand will only increase at faster rates.
Please support Don’s 24hr Ride for Alzheimer’s and show that you are also committed to support those living with dementia and the development of local programs and services.
